About the Show

A chrysalis looks still from the outside. Everything is happening inside. This is a show about that space.

The Room Between is a video podcast for women navigating the long, uncertain middle of transformation — where identity shifts, purpose deepens, and becoming happens one honest choice at a time.

The Room Between is a video podcast about the space where transformation actually happens — not the breakthrough moment, but the long, uncertain middle.

It is a space dedicated to women navigating life's transitions — the personal ones, the professional ones, the ones we seek, and the ones thrust upon us. Because transitions don't just change our circumstances. They reshape our identity, our purpose, our relationships, our work, and the way we move through the world.

Hosted by Dr. Nicole Yeldell Butts — organizational culture strategist, executive coach, author, and creator of the SHIFT Framework — this show explores what happens in the space between who we've been and who we're becoming.

Through honest conversation, reflection, and practical tools, episodes dig into identity, reinvention, career changes, menopause, illness, relationships and more.

Most of what's changing doesn't show up anywhere obvious — not on a resume, not in a conversation with a friend, not in anything you could point to and explain. It's quieter than that. This isn't a space about having it all figured out. It's a space about moving through change with consciousness, courage, alignment, and self-trust — because the room between who you were and who you're becoming isn't a waiting room. It's your Chrysalis Season. It's where Boldly Becoming happens. And it's where you move, honestly and one choice at a time, toward Unapologetically Thriving.

Each episode is another woman's room between -- a real conversation about what it takes to move through change with consciousness and courage. Explore the full library, find where your story begins, and keep going.

She Didn't Want to Feel. She Wanted to Fix

with Monikka · Stallworth

Monikka Stallworth didn't set out to make an exhibition. She set out to stop hiding. In 2016, within moments of her mother's death, a sentence arrived that she couldn't shake: life is for living. It took years to understand what that sentence was asking of her, and years more before she could show anyone the photographs she'd taken of the woman she had spent decades keeping secret. In this conversation, the artist behind Met Mo For This talks with Dr. Nicole about the long middle: the marriage she tried everything to save, a habit she hid from nearly everyone, the night she cut off more than a decade of locs while on the phone with her mother's best friend, and a poem that came to her at the least poetic moment imaginable. Along the way, she makes a case you don't often hear about transformation. Before anything can change, she argues, you need somewhere safe enough to let it, the way a caterpillar finds a protected place before it ever becomes a chrysalis. This is an episode about the difference between fixing and feeling, what grief sets in motion without asking permission, and what it means to reclaim the parts of yourself you were taught to be ashamed of. Monikka also reads her poem "Feel" in full.
